TAFE BRIEFING WITH HIGHER EDUCATION REVIEW PANEL
The Higher Education Review Panel provided an initial consultation in Victoria, designed especially to open questions on tertiary dual sector, and articulation challenges facing TAFE students, and issues facing the National Inquiry.
Emeritus Professor Denise Bradley, and the Higher Education Review Panel, hosted TAFE Directors Australia at a one-hour consultation in Melbourne, 24 June. The formal consultation with TDA will be held 24 July in Canberra.
The consultation in Melbourne was also assisted with attendance from David Williams, CEO of the Victorian TAFE Association. Issues covered included:
- Co-location challenges of regional universities and TAFE, and co-existence for TAFE
- Extension of TAFE qualifications to degrees
- Status of the VET system under state and territory funding and control, with universities operating under a Federal governance structure
- Impact of skills migration to skill needs, and preferred tertiary platforms required for multicultural and wider adult learning needs / qualifications
- Planning in TAFE Institutes for changing economic and social population profiles.
THE GREENING OF SKILLS: A STUDY ON THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE
A new report, Growing the Green Collar Economy, identifies the employment impact of action to cut greenhouse gas emissions in Australia and examines skills, training and workforce implications. It suggests that Australia can take strong action to tackle climate change and create millions of new job opportunities.
Released by the Dusseldorp Skills Forum (DSF) and the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF), the economic analysis by CSIRO identifies those sectors where employment will shift in a low carbon economy.
Ms Oona Nielssen, Executive Director of DSF, said, "Climate change is both our greatest economic risk
and, ironically, a great economic opportunity. But only if the Australian workforce is properly skilled and resourced to underpin truly sustainable industries and workplaces."
