TDA CONVENTION PROGRAM RELEASED

The Convention Program for the 2007 TAFE Directors Australia National Convention has been released.

The theme of the Convention is ‘Reframe ~ Refresh ~ Fresh Start’ and features domestic and international speakers challenging how TAFE operates in the Australian training marketplace.

The program features an Inaugural Business-Tertiary Roundtable, and is supported by the Hon. Andrew Robb AO MP, Minister for Vocational and Further education.

SKILLSONE TV PROGRAM AND WEBSITE LAUNCHED

The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence has launched SkillsOne Television, a program designed to raise awareness and the status of the trades industry. The TV and website launch was hosted by radio commentator Alan Jones, at a special Sydney event at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

The first SkillsOne Television program aired on the Foxtel, Optus and Austar Aurora Community Channel 28 July.

The Minister for Vocational and Further Education, The Hon Andrew Robb MP, praised the new SkillsOne program, and the opportunity to make skills a first choice career option for younger and older Australians. To view Minister Robb’s press release click here.

VET LEADS STRONG GROWTH IN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT - AEI DATA

The latest Australian Education International student data has been released for the period January-June 2007.

The VET sector showed a strong lead in the number of international students enrolling in, and commencing courses.

VET enrolments increased strongly -- up almost 41% -- and commencements almost 45% from June 2006 figures. The highest source of growth was India, followed by China.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE STAFF – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR UAE PROJECT – ABU DHABI

TAFE NSW is currently recruiting management and teaching staff to help set up the new Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI).

The recruitment drive follows a successful tender by TAFE NSW to establish the first VET Institution in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital city of Abu Dhabi.

The Institute will open in September, and will offer English language and VET courses.

TAA04 ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

Innovation and Business Skills Australia (IBSA) is currently commencing the TAA04 Training and Assessment Training Package Enhancement Project.

The project was created to revise units of competency, update evidence requirements and develop skills sets for inclusion in the Training Package.

IBSA is currently seeking feedback about the project.
