INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SATISFACTION FOLLOW-UP SURVEY
More than two thirds of international VET who studied in Australia were in full time or part time work a year after completing their course, according to the 2007 Follow-up International Student Survey released by Australian Education International.
The survey found that 67% held a full time or part time job, 26% were doing further full time or part time study and not working, and 4% were unemployed and actively seeking a job. Over 75% of respondents noted their intention to seek permanent residency at some point in the future.
The earlier survey, released in 2007, identified education quality, richness of student experience and enhanced employment prospects as key reasons international students chose Australia.

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A JOINT
TDA/ERTOA NETWORK
TAFE Directors Australia (TDA) and the Enterprise Registered Training Organisations Association ERTOA have submitted a proposal to ReFraming the Future for a 2008 Network grant.
ERTOA is an association of mainly large companies where training is embedded in the organization. Its members include Westpac, ABC, Qantas, the ATO, Toyota and OneSteel
This will be a hands on and practical project that will look in detail at how Enterprise RTOs and TAFE Institutes operate, their different operational models and, most importantly, the many similarities.
The outcomes of the project for TDA participants are anticipated to be greater awareness of the operations of enterprise RTOs, benchmarking of work practices and opportunities for future collaboration. Anthony Tyrrel from ERTOA and Pam Caven from TDA will manage the project.
Applications for TDA participants close on 6 June 2008. To apply, click here.

MATURE TRADIES ON THE ROAD TO A NEW CAREER PATH
A pilot project in South Australia trialling a new career path for mature-aged tradespeople has reached a milestone with 45 participants graduating and some already starting new careers.
South Australia's Minister for Employment, Training and Further Education, the Hon Paul Caica says the Workforce Development Mature Age initiative was inspired by the age-old problem of tradies reaching their physical limits in continuing on with their original trade.
The pilot for the vocational education sector was jointly funded by the Industry Skills Boards and the State Government South Australia Works program, but now industry will be responsible for the ongoing program.
