COAG UPDATE -- GREEN LIGHT TO NATIONAL CONSULTATION

TAFE DIRECTORS AUSTRALIA ‘WHITE PAPER’ UPDATE

The TDA submission to COAG, Investing in Productivity! will go to a national consultation across industry, peak bodies, educational and qualification authorities, trade unions and interested parties.

National Senior Officials Committee (NSOC) meeting ahead of the 8 th June 2007 meeting of federal, state and territory Training Ministers, referred the TDA paper to the Ministers’ Secretariat, after recommendations from Prime Minister and Cabinet, and several states.

Key proposals included widening trade skill qualifications with an Australian Trade Diploma, short course apprenticeships and recognising enterprise qualifications, devolution of governance for TAFE Institutes, and widening literacy and numeracy programmes.

TAFE Directors Australia will continue to widen its advocacy on the proposals, and involve stakeholders in information as it comes to hand.

ENDEAVOR AWARDS – TAFE NOMINATIONS ALERT

Scholarship nominations are invited for The Endeavour Programme, part of the Australian Government’s $1.4 billion Australian Scholarships.

Endeavour Scholarships are open to TAFE researchers, teachers and executives to undertake short or long term study, research and professional development in a broad range of disciplines and enables Australians to do the same abroad.  

The programme offers two different awards under its Australian Scholarship Programme:

AUSTRALIAN PACIFIC TECHNICAL COLLEGE – CEO APPOINTMENT

AusAID has announced the appointment of Dr. Peter Shepherd, Executive Officer of the School of Vocational Education and Management in the Faculty of Land and Food Resources, University of Melbourne, as the inaugural CEO of the Australian Pacific Technical College.

The Australian Pacific Technical College, an Australian Government initiative, will be taking its first enrolments in July 2007.

Dr. Peter Shepherd who will be based in Fiji, and has already collaborated with TAFE Directors Australia.

MICK YOUNG TRUST

The TAFE student scholarship program operated by The Mick Young Scholarship Trust 2007 is scheduled to hold its annual fund-raining event on 23 June, at the Royal Randwick Race Course. This year the Trust celebrates its 10 year anniversary.

The annual race day is the Trust’s major fundraising event. Tickets are $175 each which includes entry, three course lunch, drinks and entertainment. To view please click here.

AUSTAFE Conference

The AUSTAFE Planning Committee invites submissions for its ‘Bridging the Divide’ conference to be held October 4-5 in Darwin.

The conference will explore options, opportunities and mechanisms for moving towards the new VET environment with the main theme of: ‘What will transport TAFE across the bridge to the future?’
