WORLDSKILLS TEAM REPRESENTING AUSTRALIA IN JAPAN

The 'Skillaroos' Australian WorldSkills Team are currently in Japan participating in the 39th International WorldSkills Competition. 

Of the 27 Skillaroo Team members, 20 are students of Australian TAFE Institutes. 
The competition finished on Sunday after four intensive days of competition -- medal presentations are scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

NEW REPORT - LIVING STANDARDS OF APPRENTICES 

Group Training Australia has released a report titled: Living Standards of Apprentices. The report, based on a study by the University of New England, found that first year apprentices are paid below the poverty line and just above those on unemployment benefits. GTA is submitting the report to the Fair Pay Commission for the review of apprentice wages early next year.

CALL FOR PAPERS 

Organisers for the Fifth Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning themed 'Access to Learning for Development' are calling for contributions. 

The Forum will be held in London 13 - 17 July 2008 and will explore how open and distance learning can help achieve international development goals, access to learning, and education for all.

SKILLSONE LAUNCHES ULTIMATE APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME 

The Institute of Trade Skills Excellence has launched the second instalment of its Ultimate Apprenticeship Competition. Those considering or currently studying an apprenticeship as well as those who are already qualified can enter to win the opportunity to experience one of three prizes: visit the Singapore Garden Festival, be part of the A1 Team Australia Pit Crew at Brands Hatch England or cook in Japan with world famous chefs.
