TAFE INCLUDED IN LABOR SKILLS AUSTRALIA PLAN

Training providers would be included, along with industry groups, in Labor’s 2007 election initiative to establish a statutory corporation, called Skills Australia.

Labor Leader Kevin Rudd MP made the Skills Australia pledge during a weekend unofficial election launch to tackle Australia’s skills shortages, on Saturday, at Penrith in Sydney. Click here to see announcement.

Martin Riordan, CEO of TAFE Directors Australia was interviewed on national media following the announcement, including Sky News TV, national radio, and AAP news. The AAP report is attached.

The Prime Minister and Mr. Rudd have been invited to the 2007 National Convention. The Hon. Andrew Robb AO MP, Minister for Vocational Education and Further Education, and Mr. Stephen Smith MP, Labor’s Shadow Minister, have already accepted.

2007 TDA NATIONAL CONVENTION – REGISTRATIONS OPEN THIS WEEK

TAFE executives are invited to be part of history, with the TDA National Convention to be conducted on the eve of the 2007 Federal Election – focussing on skills as a pivotal national issue.

The role of engaging TAFE in skills development – and TAFE as a business – will be critical themes in the two-day Convention – starting next Monday 24th September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

TAFE ALUMNI GALLERY TO FEATURE AT NATIONAL CONVENTION

TDA will celebrate TAFE success stories with a TAFE Alumni Exhibition at the upcoming TDA Convention in Melbourne. The gallery will feature former TAFE students who have gone on to succeed in their chosen field. These include fashion designer, Akira Isogawa, basketballer, Andrew Gaze, landscape designer, Jamie Durie, and entrepreneur, Julie Smith-Massara.

NATIONAL AUDIT & REGISTRATION AGENCY (NARA) – 1st OCT 2007 LAUNCH

The new National Audit and Registration system for RTOs will be launched, effective 1st October 2007. Eligibility has been agreed – limited initially to “multi-jurisdictional” RTOs. TVET Australia will administer the new arrangements, providing registration services.

TAFE INCLUDED IN LH MARTIN INSTITUTE FOR TERTIARY INSTITUTE

The Hon. Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Education, Science and Training, has launched the LH Martin Institute of Higher Education Leadership and Management. The Institute was funded with a $10M grant, and will provide professional development for university, TAFE, and authorised private provider organizations.

INTERNATIONAL TENDERS – AEI

Tenders have been called from TAFE Institutes for the following projects:

  • Development of a niche marketing strategy for VET for the mining sector in Latin America (PRN 16490 – closes 25 September 2007)
  • Development of a VET international marketing package (PRN 16517 – closes 5 October 2007)
  • International recognition of Australian VET qualifications (PRN 16569 – closes 10 October 2007)

A tender for preparation of a professional development seminar on international business skills will be issued in late September.
