DEST RELEASES FRAMEWORK FOR INTERNATIONAL ENGAGEMENT

The Department of Education, Science and Training has released the framework document: 'Strategic Framework for International Engagement by the Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) Sector, 2007-2011'. 

The Framework highlights DEST's partnership with the Australian VET sector in expanding the sector's international engagement. DEST consulted with VET providers, industry and peak bodies to produce the Framework.

TAFE INSTITUTES RECEIVE GRANTS FOR OVERSEAS PROJECTS

The Sydney Institute of TAFE, NSW, Gordon Institute of TAFE, Victoria, and the Sunshine Institute of TAFE, Queensland, are among five successful applicants that have been chosen as recipients of the VET Sector Outward Mobility Pilot Program 2007-2008. 

The Pilot Program, funded by Australian Education International, gives financial support to projects that encourage Australian students, trainers or administrators to engage in study or work experience overseas.

CONTRIBUTION OF VET TO REGIONAL GROWTH 

The National Centre for Vocation Education Research has released: 'An enterprising approach to regional growth: Implications and the role of vocational education and training'. 

The report covers the patterns of Australian regional economic growth from 1984 to 2002 and the contribution of the VET sector to regional growth. 

A copy of the report can be accessed here. NCVER is also seeking funding proposals for projects that will support or develop research capacity in the VET sector. Funding of $250,000 has been allocated to support various projects over three years. For more information click here.

ATTENTION TAFE INSTITUTES IN RURAL AND REGIONAL AREAS - RURAL COUNSELLING APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Grant applications for the delivery of the Rural Financial Counselling Services Programme from July 2008 to June 2011 are now open. 

Counsellors provide free and impartial financial counselling to primary producers, fishers and small rural businesses who are suffering financial hardship or who have no other sources of support.

HOLMESGLEN TAFE RECEIVES MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR DEVELOPMENT

The Waverly Campus of Holmesglen TAFE in Victoria has received new vocational education facilities worth almost $10 million. The new facilities, including two teaching buildings and a cafeteria, were launched by Minister for Vocational and Further Education, the Hon Andrew Robb AO MP.
