NEW ASSESSMENT LEVELS FOR STUDENT VISASChanges to Assessment Levels for Student Visa purposes will begin today – 14 May 2007. Changes will affect all applications made on or after today. There are a numerous changes to the previous Assessment Levels, view them here.BUDGET 2007-2008 – DEPARTMENT OF IMMIGRATION AND CITIZENSHIPThe Department of Immigration and Citizenship has released details to education providers on the impact of the 2007 Budget. The Skilled Migration Stream will have a modest increase of 5,000 places with a total of 102,500 places. Visit the DIAC website to access budget papers and associated Minister’s media releases.INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITYApplications are now being taken for the Endeavour Executive Awards. The Australian Government initiative is open to TAFE executives to undertake professional development in a related field in a participating country in the Asia-Pacific region. Award recipients are able to develop or upgrade their professional skills and knowledge through a host work environment, rather than through enrolment in a formal academic study program. Applications close on the 31 July 2007. The Strategy provides an overview of the Australian VET Sector, international issues, opportunities and challenges as well as offering strategies for the Australian Government. VET providers and interested parties are invited to a public meeting for a presentation and discussion on the draft Strategy . When: Friday, 25 May 2007, 10.30am – 12.00pm AUSTRALIA’S FIRST NATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT WEEKThe Career Industry Council of Australia is launching Australia’s first National Career Development Week from 4-10 June 2007. The event is an Australian Government initiative aimed at encouraging Australians to take active ownership of their careers and “get the life they love!”. TAFE institutes and their management are encouraged to take a look at the National Career Development Week website and get involved. The website lists creative event ideas for students and staff to promote the initiative.
