SKILLS SHAKE-UP IN TASMANIAN BUDGET

The Tasmanian State Budget has detailed a new 3-tier skills structure, effective 2009.

The skills structure will introduce a Singapore-style Polytechnic to Tasmania. This will be part of the new secondary schooling planned for Years 11 & 12 and a new Enterprise Training Organization or Institute for industry skilling.

The Budget measures follow a three-year trial with school mentoring and detailed reviews of the fast-developing skill needs of industry in Tasmania. The 2007 Tasmanian Budget details on Skills are attached (view pdf).
