AUSTRALIAN TRAINING AWARDS - WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Australia's TAFE Institutes featured strongly in the 2007 National Training Awards, announced in Hobart.
TDA congratulates this year's winners.
TAFE NSW - Western Institute received the 'Large Training Provider Award'. The Western Institute reaches some of the most remote communities in NSW, covering 60% of the state and operating 24 campuses. Congratulations to other finalists: Canberra Institute of Technology and Gold Coast Institute of TAFE.

National Trade Teacher of the Year
Also awarded on the night were the National Trade Teacher of the Year awards.
Out of the 18 trade teachers who were announced as a Trade Teacher of the Year in their respective training areas, Marion Fitzpatrick from Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW (Ryde College) was named the overall winner.

ELECTION 2007 - UPDATE - RUDD COMMENTS ON ATC's
Federal Opposition Leader the Hon. Kevin Rudd MP, has told media that if elected, Labor may scrap the governments plan for 100 new Australian Technical Colleges as a way of curbing government spending.

NCVER RELEASES: ATLAS OF AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC VET
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) has released the 'Atlas of Australian Public VET', an online resource that provides data on students and courses across regional areas in Australia.
The data presented in the atlas includes: the numbers and characteristics of VET students, the types of courses being undertaken and the number of students in different skills areas.
