SKILLING AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCEMENT  

The first 20,000 of the 450,000 new training places to be delivered over the next four years are on track to start from 1 April. TDA is meeting Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) this week, to begin consultations on how TAFE Institutes can assist with these new places.

DEEWR has announced that ahead of the new places, the Australian Skills Vouchers Program will be phased down, with enrolment cut-off dates now confirmed. 

Approved training providers will be unable to enrol students in Australian Skills Vouchers Program funded courses after 13 March. Current voucher recipients (approved prior to 31 March) under Work Skills and Business Skills Vouchers will continue under contractual agreements from 1 April to 30 June. CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION LAUNCHES INDUSTRY ALIGNMENT BETWEEN AUSTRALIAN TAFE AND CHINESE INSTITUTES

The NSW Minister for Education and Training, the Hon. John Della Bosca MP hosted the boards of TAFE Directors Australia and the Australia China Business Council, at a special reception at State Parliament in Sydney. 

The TAFE Business Network event was to announce that TDA had successfully concluded a new leadership exchange agreement between Australia's TAFE Institutes and the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), which would feature industry alignment and teacher exchanges.

2020 SUMMIT  

Education and skills were listed as one of several priorities last week when the Prime Minister, the Hon. Kevin Rudd announced the Australia 2020 Summit to be held at Parliament House. The Summit will bring together 1000 chosen Australians to debate the major policy issues facing Australia, and will be staged in April.

NEW GOVERNMENT ICT APPRENTICESHIPS 

The Minister for Finance and Deregulation, the Hon. Lindsay Tanner MP has announced a $15 million Information and Communications Technology (ICT) apprenticeship program. 

The program will aim to deliver 60 jobs within government in an effort to address skills shortages. The program will be delivered by Excelior Pty Ltd and the academic component will be provided by the Canberra Institute of Technology.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY - E-LEARNING 

Guideline and application information is now available for Australian Flexible Learning Framework's national funding for Industry Integration of E-learning. 

The project provides funding directly to businesses and enterprises to implement e-learning, with the requirement that they partner with an RTO with e-learning delivery capability.

AEI ONLINE STUDY 

Australian Education International (AEI), through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, has commissioned a project to develop an Australian VET International Capability Marketing Brief.

A short, online survey is currently running as part of this project. The aim is to receive feedback about how you communicate to the Australian VET system, your organisation and your offerings to your international clients. The survey is primarily aimed at representatives of the Australian VET sector who operate or work extensively in a global education environment (onshore or offshore).

The survey can be accessed at any time until Midnight Thursday 14th February and will take approximately 8 minutes to complete. Anyone wanting to take the opportunity to be part of this study should register here to gain access to the survey. Information provided as part of this survey by individual organisations will remain confidential.

UK SETS OUT FIVE YEAR FURTHER EDUCATION SECTOR STRATEGY

Lifelong Learning UK has developed a strategy to develop the workforce in the Further Education sector in England. The strategy will help to ensure that the skills development needs of all staff working within the sector are identified and that there is agreement on the priorities for national action and investment. BSB07 BUSINESS SERVICES TRAINING PACKAGE WORKSHOPS

Innovation and Business Skills Australia is holding professional development workshops for the BSB07 Business Training Package. 

Four separate workshops will be held in each state and territory and aim to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to deliver and assess BSB07.

REFRAMING THE FUTURE - FUNDING APPLICATIONS

Reframing the Future, the national staff development and change management program for VET, has launched its funded projects program for 2008.
