IS VET VOCATIONAL?A new paper released by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) examines the issue of how VET is actually used in the labour market, in particular the match between what people study and the jobs they get. The study has three main proposals: the role that the VET system plays in addressing the needs of the labour market; that those developing training packages need to be aware that many graduates will not work in their anticipated occupation, and; that VET students need to be realistic about the likely occupation that a particular course will lead to.
