NATIONAL SURVEY – DEADLINE REMINDERMembers are reminded Tuesday 11 September is the deadline for completion of the National Survey of TAFE Directors Australia. The National Survey will be a key input into the TDA Directors Retreat, planned for Sunday 23 September – the afternoon session will begin at 1.30pm through to 4.30pm, before the launch of the 2007 TDA National Convention. TAFE DIRECTORS AUSTRALIA NATIONAL CONVENTION 2007EXCITING LINE- UP FOR TDA CONVENTIONThe extensive list of prominent speakers for the 2007 TAFE Directors Australia National Convention will now also include The Hon Stephen Smith MP, Shadow Minister for Education. TAFE & INDUSTRY PANEL TO DISCUSS NEW DIRECTIONSThe final event on the Convention program will be a panel lounge chair discussion: Walking the talk, facilitated by Virginia Simmons, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chisholm Institute of TAFE. This is set to be a lively and topical discussion on why TAFE needs to reframe and make a fresh start and will touch on matters including the COAG agenda, governance and fee help. The panel will include key VET contributors including Rachel Hunter, Queensland Director-General of Education, Training and the Arts, Adrian Marron, Executive Director, TAFE SA, Adelaide North and Alistair Crozier, Deputy Vice Chancellor & Director TAFE Swinburne University of Technology. DON’T MISS OUT The TDA Convention provides an excellent opportunity for TAFE, business and
government leaders to be exposed to, and involved in, the contemporary issues
impacting on TAFE. It also provides TAFE executives with the chance to hear
what is working well in other TAFE institutes and meet friends and colleagues
in a convivial atmosphere.
NEW GOVERNMENT INCENTIVES TO ATTRACT APRENTICESExtra trades have been added to the National Skills Needs List and will now be eligible to receive a range of incentives as a part of a $57.5 million government initiative to boost apprentice numbers. The 17 new trades added to the previous 38 trades already eligible for the incentives include: Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Binders and Finishers, Butchers, Flat Glass Trades, Furniture Finishers, Locksmiths, Optical Mechanics, Painters and Decorators, Picture Framers, Printing Machinists, Screen Printers, Shearers, Signwriters, Tree Surgeons, Vehicle Trimmers and Wood Machinists. IBSA RESEARCHInnovation and Business Skills Australia is undertaking a research and analysis project on intellectual property within the VET sector, other training organisations and the broader business community. ‘The main focus of the research will be to identify the extent and configuration of existing Intellectual Property (IP) training in the VET sector and to identify if a need for formal IP training exists in this market.’ To participate in the survey online click here.
