In an effort to attract more people to study in the fields, apprentices will be able to access $800 for a tool kit and up to $1,000 to help with course fees. To view the media release click here. STRONG GROWTH CONTINUES FOR INTERNATIONAL ENROLMENTSAustralian Education International has released international student enrolment data for July, showing continued growth within the VET sector. The year-to date (YTD) July 2007 figures show an increase of almost 44 per cent for enrolments and 50 per cent for commencements from the YTD July 2006 figures. Strong growth was recorded in the fields of ‘Services, Hospitality and Transport’ and ‘Business Administration and Management’. To view a summary of the data please click here. RETIRING NSW POLICE COMMISSIONER HEADING TO TAFELast week, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that retiring NSW Police Commissioner, Ken Moroney plans to enrol in a TAFE Carpentry course. Mr. Moroney’s intentions demonstrate that it is never too late to enrol in TAFE and learn new skills and TDA welcomes the outgoing Commissioner to the TAFE system. REPORT FROM VISTA-VALA CONFERENCEMore than 200 people attended the joint VISTA-VALA Post Compulsory Day Conference 2007 at Victoria University in Sunshine. The focus was on current issues and challenges in post-compulsory education. A range of learning pathways were showcased including work placements, school-based apprenticeships and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), a combined academic/vocational pathway.
