CHINA COMMENDS "C-TAFE" $20M AID PROJECTAusAID's $20 million aid project delivering "C-TAFE" in China's largest manufacturing city, Chongqing, has been commended as a key model for China's vocational education system. AusAID announced the 5-year project will conclude in August this year. Mr. Huang Yao, Director-General of China's Department of VET and Adult Education, applauded the project when addressing the 3rd Sino-Australian VET Forum in Chongqing. He said China will proceed with the strategic VET project, and conduct an audit to create a detailed Action Plan on VET ahead of a Ministry of Education strategic review of China's VET system in coming months. Wayne Collyer, deputy chair of TDA, made the official address on behalf of Australia's public sector TAFE system, and Team Leader Antoine Barnaart delivered a review of the project. The review can be downloaded from www.acvetp.com. Martin Riordan, CEO of TDA, earlier addressed an investment symposium on Guangdong Province, sponsored by AEI (DEST) and the Provincial Department of Education, Guangdong, China.
AQTF 2007 UPDATE – Changes to begin as scheduledThe Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) 2007 Implementation Forum was held on Tuesday 26 June 2007. Representatives from TDA, Australian Council for Private Education and Training, and the Enterprise Registered Training Organisation Association attended the forum, along with some members of the Standing Committee of the National Quality Council. A number of questions were raised about the implementation of the new Standards, however it was announced there will be no delay in the execution, gazetted for 1 July, 2007. DEST, as well as States and Territories were asked to further clarify the documents that explain the new changes. In the next few months, the National Quality Council will be asking for provider feedback on implementation issues. For more information on the AQTF 2007 please click here. RELEASE OF REPORT ON CREDIT TRANSFERThe Joint Committee on Higher Education has released a report on the National Study on Credit Transfer. The study made 17 recommendations to improve credit transfer from VET to higher education. The Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA) has responded to the report’s recommendations in the attached document. MCEETYA is seeking comment on the report by November 2007. For more information go to the MCEETYA website. REFRAMING THE FUTURE FORUMS: Continuous Improvement in VETThe Continuous Improvement in VET forums will be held in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth during August. The forums will focus on strategic approaches to the continuous improvement of registered training organisations.
