World Expo 2010 Mission – Bilateral announcements for TAFE and China VET Institutes

A delegation of TAFE Directors have returned from a six-day Mission to China, which included briefings on the outcome and evaluation of the Australia-China Chongqing VET Project, a joint symposium with the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), and a special event in the Australian Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo.

During the Mission, TDA and the CEAIE jointly announced a number of new initiatives to strengthen their relationship and enhance vocational education and training in both countries including:

  • A vocational leadership training program in Australia for 20 vocational Principals and Vice Principals from China to commence in August this year.
  • A bi-annual symposium between the two countries to focus on key issues including mutual recognition of institutions and courses, student and teacher exchange programs, and industry engagement.
  • Joint publications focusing on case studies of effective partnerships and cooperation.
  • An Australia-China alumni of participants from previous and future vocational leadership programs.

Dr Anne Jones from Victoria University, and Dianne Murray from TAFE NSW- Illawarra Institute, have prepared a summary of the initiatives. TDA has also prepared a media release announcing outcomes from the mission.

The TDA 2010 National Conference will feature a theme ‘TAFE in the Year of the Tiger’, with special international sessions for TAFE managers in this area.
