Vale Jack Keating

Senior figures in vocational education and government attended last week’s funeral of Jack Keating, leader of the Education Policy and Leadership Unit at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education.

Jack Keating passed away after battling cancer. Tributes have flowed for Jack, who was a leading contributor to vocational education and the role of TAFE in national VET reform.

Martin Riordan, CEO of TDA, said the sad and sudden passing of Jack Keating was a huge blow to Australia’s educators.

“Jack Keating was foremost in contributing with innovation and policy for incoming and current Federal and state jurisdictions,” Martin Riordan said.

“As a leading author of VET research, he was a robust speaker at national forums, and won the respect of all, especially in his role heading the Education Policy and Leadership Unit at University of Melbourne.

“On behalf of TAFE Directors Australia, we say, ‘Vale Jack Keating’, and will remember well your great contribution to those seeking to better understand skills in Australia.”

The Australian published a report on Jack Keating last week
