TAFE CEOs write for The Age, raising concerns over treatment of international students
The Chief Executive of Chisholm Institute of TAFE, Virginia Simmons, and Chief Executive of Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, Bruce Mackenzie, wrote an opinion piece in The Age last week focusing on the treatment of international students and regulation of private colleges.
The article urges an overhaul of regulations governing the private college system and better resourcing to support quality housing and transport concessions. It also suggests a placing a cap on the number of registered training organisations in order to increase the capacity of regulators to control the industry.

TDA and ACE to undertake study on enhancing retention to Year 12
The Australian Government has accepted a key recommendation from the Joint National Forum on Schools and Skills Engagement, initiated by TDA with the Australian College of Educators, to commission the two agencies to undertake dedicated research on vocational education school models.
Funding for TDA along with the Australian College of Educators (ACE) was recently approved by the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), for their joint research proposal: Enhancing Retention of Young People to Year 12, especially through Vocational Skills.
The project follows from the 2008 National Forum on Youth Engagement (Hobart), and issues arising from the roundtable on youth and skills, hosted by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Education and Training (February, 2009), which was represented for TDA by Kaye O’Hara, Deputy CEO, CIT Canberra.
