National TAFE support for Victorian bushfire disaster

Australian TAFE Institutes have reacted with support for those colleagues and students impacted by the weekend's disastrous Victorian bushfires.

TAFE Directors Australia will work with the Victorian TAFE Association, to alert TAFE Institute colleagues of the situation as news develops. We will also work to alert international colleagues given Victorian Institutes remain key providers of training services externally into the Asia-Pacific region.

TDA also supports the Red Cross Emergency Bushfire Appeal. Donations can be made on 1800 811 700.

Special bulletins will follow through the week for TAFE colleagues and students to help with direct support.

TAFE consultation - new date for meeting with Deputy PM on Bradley Review

Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Julia Gillard MP, has announced a new date to meet TAFE Directors Australia, as part of an extended series of roundtable discussions allowing stakeholders to respond to the recommendations of the Bradley Review.

The series of six roundtable discussions will continue over the coming weeks. The Deputy Prime Minister has flagged she will seek to respond to the Bradley Review in March.

Late last week, the Shadow Minister for Education, Christopher Pyne MP, released a statement claiming the Government had opted to step away from the Bradley Review recommendations, and is looking at new options. Click here to view the media release.

New study seeks factors that motivate international students to study VET in Australiay

A new four-year study is attempting to uncover the factors that influence the high number of international students that come to Australia to undertake vocational education and training, and the experiences of students in the sector.

The study, being undertaken by RMIT University and funded by the Australian Research Council is said to be the first of its kind. It aims to analyse how teaching and training packages adapt to the needs of international students and how the students themselves adapt to studying VET in Australia.
