The Board of TDA has proposed the scholarship, funded in conjunction with Australian Education International, for the upcoming TDA Business Development Mission to Canada and the US, 20-30 May 2008. The AUD$10,000 travel scholarship is designed for "emerging leaders" of TAFE Institutes. Applications close 7 March 2008. Click here for the briefing and application form.
The Hon. Brendan O'Connor, the new Minister for Employment Participation, will be Keynote Speaker at the Youth Engagement National Forum (Wednesday 16 April, Hobart). Senior heads of all Australian, state and territory governments, along with state training and curriculum bodies, will be represented.
The National Forum is a joint initiative of TDA and the Australian College of Educators, and will be held in conjunction with the National Conference of ACE. With the $2.5 billion Trade Training in Schools initiative soon to start, the program will support direction for schools and TAFE Institute decision makers on skills in schools policy and collaboration.
Bookings will open next week for the National Forum, but reservations can be made by emailing: Secretariat@tda.edu.au
The OECD is undertaking a thematic review of VET policy and a study of systemic innovation in VET. The research will provide Australia with quality, independent advice on what's working and what may need improving within the national training system. It will also provide an opportunity to showcase Australia's strengths in VET.
Australia has confirmed its participation along with 13 other countries. The research project is expected to span 18 months with OECD experts scheduled to visit Australia in April 2008. Major reports will be published by the end of 2008 and a possible international conference will be convened in 2009. Click here for project description.
TDA is working closely with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to contribute to the research and showcase opportunities as part of the study. For more information contact Ms Rebecca Biazos Director International Engagement on 0407 550 180 or email@example.com
TDA has been invited to participate in the industry reference group (IRG) for a resource design and development project to be run by the Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council. It will focus on the area of chronic disease self management.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is now calling for public submissions and comments on the merit of a free trade agreement between Australia and India.
In 2007 Australia and India agreed to undertake a joint feasibility study on the merit of a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries. The study will address the impact on Australia and India of an FTA, including implications for economic growth, trade in goods and services, investment, and other commercial linkages.
TDA invites member institutes to contribute issues, views and experiences to include in a TDA submission to inform the feasibility study.
Comments are due 21 March 2008. Keep an eye out for details regarding industry consultations to be conducted in State/territory capitals during April 2008. For further details see www.dfat.gov.au/geo/india/fta-study
