TDA Conference – save the date

The 2012 TDA Conference will be held in Perth, from 6-7 September.

Keep an eye out for further information. See story below.

COAG opens door to Entitlement Training in Australia,

Early implementation of streamlined student visa arrangements for high quality VET RTO Providers

TAFE Directors Australia has called on Commonwealth, State and Territory leadership to make transparent the proposed funding for skills and training, as well as the “implementation strategies” which will support TAFE’s continued role in the training system. This follows last Friday’s historic COAG agreement to proceed with Entitlement Training in Australia.

The COAG agreement noted only the extension of income contingent loans, which TDA argues should be accompanied by transparent and sustained investment by the government, as a co-contribution to training.

TDA issued a media statement welcoming measures to “support and strengthen” TAFE as the public provider of vocational education and training, within a competitive VET landscape.

In addition, COAG agreed to early implementation of streamlined student visa arrangements for high quality/low risk RTOs in vocational education and training. COAG requested that the streamlining be extended form universities to VET in the second half of 2012.

East meets West: TDA National Conference

We invite VET leaders, CEOs, business managers, international business managers, senior executives, industry partners in Industry Skills Councils, peak bodies, enterprises, and universities to join us in September for the TDA National Conference, which will discuss some of the most critical issues facing the VET sector.

Delegates will be challenged to explore issues of skills development that not only reflect the developing relationship between Australia and Asia but also the changing relationships between our western and eastern states.

The TDA conference will explore topics, including the challenges facing VET providers; improving training and employment outcomes for Indigenous Australians; the question of whether Australia has a sustainable competitive advantage in skills development; how federal VET policy is impacting productivity; and best practice in TAFE organisation and governance.

For more details about the event, view the East meets West TDA 2012 flyer.
