The new industry-led Board of the Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency (AWPA) has 

handed the Tertiary Education and Skills Minister a decisive report on how to tackle Australia’s 

stalled national productivity, and declared TAFE as the “bedrock” of the national VET system.

The crisis in vocational education has been almost forgotten. At the moment there is a precipitous decline in the number of apprenticeships in Australia. In the past year the number of apprenticeship commencements has fallen by nearly half. Government policies are stop-start and ill co-ordinated, at both federal and state level.
