Board Announcement

    Deb Daly, Chair of TAFE Directors Australia and Institute Director of Gold Coast Institute of TAFE, has accepted an appointment of Chief Operating Officer with the Department of Education and Training in Brisbane, effective 25 January 2010.

    As a consequence, Bruce Mackenzie will become Chair of TAFE Directors Australia, after serving as Deputy Chair and Treasurer, and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee of ‘TDA’. Bruce Mackenzie is CEO of Holmesglen Institute of TAFE (VIC).

    The Board and Secretariat wish to congratulate Deb Daly on her DETA appointment, which will involve a leadership role in DETA extending to strategic policy management of TAFE in Queensland. At Gold Coast Institute of TAFE, Aaron Devine will commence as Acting CEO of GCIT.

    Bruce Mackenzie said he welcomed the opportunity to extend his responsibilities as Chair, given his considerable advocacy on post-Bradley tertiary policy, current TDA initiatives supporting the national regulator, and measures to protect international students impacted by private college closures and disclosures.

    Wayne Collyer continues as Deputy Chair, and will be Acting Chair during a period of leave in February for Bruce Mackenzie.

    New elections for all TDA Board directors takes effect at the next TDA AGM, scheduled in Sydney on 28th May 2010.

    ACTING CEO AT TDA DURING MARTIN RIORDAN’S US FULBRIGHT SCHOLARHSIP

    Pam Caven has been appointed Acting CEO for TDA, during Martin Riordan’s term in the US completing his Australian American Fulbright VET Scholarship (Jan-Apr, 2010).

    Pam Caven is currently TDA’s Director Policy and Stakeholder Engagement.

    On behalf of the Board and the National Secretariat, I congratulate Deb Daly on her appointment, welcome Bruce Mackenzie to be Chair of TDA, and thank Pam Caven for accepting the extended role of A/CEO in my absence in the United States through Q1 2010.

    HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS – NATIONAL SECRETARIAT

    TDA will continue operations through to noon Wednesday 23rd December, and re-open Monday 11th January 2010.
