Australian TAFE International Network (ATIN)
TERMS OF REFERENCE
The Australian TAFE International Network is a collaborative group of members from TAFE institutes and departmental international offices, who come together to represent the interests of Australia’s TAFE network in the international arena.
Scope
With the changing nature of international engagement within TAFE institutes, the role of ATIN is important in representing the interests and needs of members and in making representation to key influencers and decision makers in national and international markets. Specifically the scope of work for the ATIN group (in support of TDA) is centred around the key result areas of :
- Policy and advocacy
- Strategy and market intelligence
- Marketing and Profiling
- Business Development
Purpose
- To provide advice, support and a consultation mechanism on matters relating to international, on behalf of TAFE Directors Australia
- To represent and cultivate an Australian TAFE position on key issues of policy and opportunities in the international market place
- To provide a forum for all TAFE institutes and TDA members to advocate and take action on specific areas of interest and importance to the international agenda
- To provide a forum for discussion, cooperation and information exchange both externally with key allies and partners and internally with states and territories.
- To support and build the international promotion and recognition of TAFE in international markets
- To consider specific market opportunities and business development activities to support the sector
- To advance the broader internationalisation agenda across the Australian TAFE network (including inbound students, transnational delivery, offshore project development and mobility)
Membership
The membership of the Australian TAFE International Network is drawn from international directors and managers within TAFE institutes or international offices. Each state or territory is allocated up to two places on ATIN. The selection of these representatives shall remain the discretion of each jurisdiction.
Given the changing nature of international engagement, members should be able to discuss and report on issues that include: international students, offshore projects, transnational education and internationalisation. Jurisdictions should consider this in their nomination of representatives. The Chair of the ATIN network is nominated by members on two year basis.
Relationship to TDA
The ATIN group acts as an advisory network supporting the TAFE Directors Australia National Secretariat. The ATIN scope includes advice to TDA on matters of policy, markets, strategic barriers or opportunities and business development. It does not issue policy or directives on behalf of TDA. Each TDA Board meeting includes international as part of its agenda. ATIN meetings outcomes and other strategic activities will be tabled for consideration, discussion and resolution by the Board.
Communications and Committee Support
TAFE Directors Australia, through the Director International Engagement will provide administrative and research support to the Chair. The Director International Engagement, in consultation with the Chair and network members will develop agenda’s for meetings.
State and Territory representatives have an obligation to share information with other members in their jurisdiction about the discussions and outcomes from meetings.
Minutes will be taken for every meeting, a generic version of which will be circulated to the broader TAFE network.
Timeframe
The ATIN group will meet either face to face or via teleconference 4 times per annum. Suggested timing is January, April, August and October.
