As Managing Director of West Coast Institute of Training, Sue Slavin has created a vibrant, values-based culture which enabled the reinvention of this innovative and future-focussed government vocational education and training organisation.

Situated in Perth’s northern suburbs, one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, West Coast has a well-earned reputation for initiative and leadership.

Through its West Coast Way, a resourceful, agile and partnered approach, almost half the institute’s training is conducted non-traditionally, including in the workplace, winning business across Western Australia, Australia and internationally.

Sue Slavin has played a key part in initiating innovative partnerships including a unique arrangement with the Western Australia Police which led to the establishment of the International Academy of Law Enforcement and Security. She has also led the development of a number of joint programs across China to add to the institute’s range of overseas training delivery.

Her other recent outcomes for the institute include the construction of a new $23 million trades training campus and selection to host Business Growth Centre to build small business capacity to compete in a volatile global environment.

She has led the establishment of key centres of excellence at West Coast including the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism which has won more than 100 state, national and international awards since its inception and, more recently, the Academy of Aboriginal Sport, Health and Education, making significant inroads into the challenges of employment outcomes for Aboriginal youth.

Sue Slavin is a former Western Australian finalist in the Telstra Businesswomen’s Awards.
