International Projects and Activities
Here's a sample of some of the exciting projects and activities the TDA International team is undertaking in 2015 and 2016:
South East Asia
Asian Business Engagement Plan - Myanmar
TDA was successful in bidding for project funding, under AusTrade's Asian Business Engagement initiative, to support the delivery of a leadership and linkages program, supporting partnerships between Australian TAFE institutes and Myanmar's VET colleges and training sector more broadly.
TDA is working collaboratively with Melbourne Polytechnic and Chisholm Institute to deliver this three-phase program. The program consists of:
Phase 1: A TDA-led leadership and college management workshop, followed by B2B meetings in Myanmar
Phase 2: A one week college leader-to-college leader intensive mentoring program in Australia
Phase 3: A TDA return trip to Myanmar for further industry discussions and B2B follow-up.
Phase one of the program was successfully completed in October 2015. Phase 2 and 3 are scheduled for implementation in Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 of 2016.
AI Vocational Education Leadership Training (VELT) program
The second phase of the second India VELT program was completed in the last week of February 2015, with 10 community college leaders plus two senior officials from the University Grants Commission spending a week visiting TAFE institutes in WA, NSW, ACT and Queensland.
The final phase, which involves mentoring in India by selected TAFE institutes, is planned for February 2016 to coincide with the AIEC Skills Conference.
At this time, TDA in collaboration with participating TAFE institutes, will also commence phase one of the third and fourth VELT programs, involving a three day workshop in New Delhi.
VELT Program #8 and #9
The eighth and ninth China VELT programs were held in March and October respectively in 2015. More than 40 delegates completed the four week program. TAFE Queensland, Holmesglen, Northern Sydney Institute and TAFE SA provided two weeks of intensive workshops and site visits.
TDA looks forward to continuing our collaboration with CEAIE and inviting more TAFE institutes to become involved in this expanding program in 2016.
Taiwan BEVT project
As part of TDA's ongoing consultancy to the Taiwanese Government's Workforce Development Agency (WDA) TDA was pleased to welcome an official Taiwanese Ministry delegation in Melbourne in May 2015. The delegation had the opportunity to meet with TEQSA, ASQA, NCVER and IBSA.
In November 2015, TDA was pleased to send a reciprocal visitor, Ms Christine Chatburn, Manager of Regulatory Operations at the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to Taiwan to meet with WDA officials and deliver briefings on Australia's approach to VET regulation and quality assurance.
As a separate initiative, TDA is working with Austrade to conduct a survey of Taiwanese universities. This survey plans to identify the universities' level of interest in foreign partnerships, as well as their course and industry priorities. The results of this survey will inform a broader strategy for supporting increased TAFE partnerships with both the WDA’s training centres and the university sector in Taiwan.
